During the middle of September, we have an upcoming project called the Corny Seed Lab. On Friday, August 30th, we are doing density of pennies and we need pennies for the lab. If you can bring pennies, please do so. Homework on Wednesday is to finish the Liquid Volume Lab questions on page 11. We have a test on measurement on Thursday, September 5th.
I'm happy to report that lab safety is done. Class averages ranged from 3.8 to 3.9 for the Lab Safety Test. Great job Team 4! I'll be busy grading Lab Safety and Me Posters this weekend and trying to stay away from all this smoke.
Measurement began Thursday, August 22. It was entertaining to see my students measure themselves in inches and centimeters. They remarked on how much they have grown since last year and admit measuring in metric is far easier than the English measurement system.
We'll be focusing on density later next week. The great news is there will be no projects for this unit. The test will be after Labor Day. This will include a lab practical.
Lately in Science we have been learning a lot about lab safety. Now that we have learned all about lab safety we know what to do and not do in the classroom. We also know all of the safety procedures during the lab. We have an important test coming up in science about lab safety on Wednesday and our Lab Safety and Me Posters are due the same day ! If they are not turned in tomorrow you will get a 0 on the project so please get them turned in! The only homework we have had this week is working on our project and getting our lab safety agreements signed and turned in. If you were a student last year you do NOT have to pay the lab fee but if you need to pay the fee it is $5. Just turn it in to the office.
Today in class I watched a lab saftey video. We took notes on the video in our packets. After we watched the video, we went over the answers. Then we continued to work our lab saftey and me posters. On Tuesday we have our first test. It is on lab saftey. This weekend we have no homework, unless we want to work on your lab saftey and me posters. - student

Enjoy your last week of summer. I have certainly enjoyed how the weather has cooled down to the upper 80's. I hope it stays that way. I enjoyed lunch last Friday with all of the eighth grade science teachers. We can't wait to see all of our students. Team 3 has an amazing surprise heading their way. You can start to see what is planned for you in science by checking out the weekly agenda on the homepage. It looks like we are still Team 4. So far class sizes are 32-38 students each period with the loss of Team 1.
