On Wednesday, October 30th, and Friday, November 1st, we had guest speakers from Rotary Club. They discussed the importance of choices and how it affects their future. We are studying the periodic table and the elements in each family. We are doing a project on the periodic table. We have chosen an element family to research and we are making an element family tree. The project is due Tuesday.
Today we are continuing to do our corn seed lab. We are on the fourth day of measuring our corn seeds. We are recording our data in our lab notebooks. We are going to do this for 6 more days. 10 days total.
We are on our third day of the corn seed observsation. We are working on molecules. In class today we saw a cartoon on gas, solids, and liquid molecules. We also worked on the corn seed observation and did the height, and mass.
- student Today we had a science inquiry test, before the test we studoed by using the Quizdom remotes. The retakes for the test is due Friday September 27th. We have a project coming up, its called the corny seed lab.
- student Today we began to learn about a new lab about bubbles. Also we learned about variables, not the math variables but science varibles. Science variables are independent variables and dependent variables. Independent variables are what the scientist changes. the dependent variable is what the scientist is looking at. (denstiy, hight, etc)
We have a science inq test coming up, its on September 20. ~ Student Students received a lab notebook today with graph paper. Don't worry this is a gift to help students write their lab reports. Students will be working on their first lab report, "Metamorphic versus Igneous Rocks," for the rest of the week. Students will be testing to see if metamorphic rocks are more dense than igneous rocks. Ms. Reinders Today in science we began a new unit, every new unit we get new seat. Today in class we got with a partner and we began to work on page 5 in our new packets. On this page we answered the questions for a lab, we are going to be putting fuit flavored mentos and also mint mentos into diet coke. We are going to figure out which flavor of mentos shoots up the highest after putting it into the diet coke. We have a inquiry test multiple choice test coming up soon. It's on, Friday, september 20th.
- Student Students will receive a test on measurement on Thursday-Friday. I expect students to know the following:
The next unit will be scientific inquiry. ~Ms. Reinders During the middle of September, we have an upcoming project called the Corny Seed Lab. On Friday, August 30th, we are doing density of pennies and we need pennies for the lab. If you can bring pennies, please do so. Homework on Wednesday is to finish the Liquid Volume Lab questions on page 11. We have a test on measurement on Thursday, September 5th.
~Student I'm happy to report that lab safety is done. Class averages ranged from 3.8 to 3.9 for the Lab Safety Test. Great job Team 4! I'll be busy grading Lab Safety and Me Posters this weekend and trying to stay away from all this smoke.
Measurement began Thursday, August 22. It was entertaining to see my students measure themselves in inches and centimeters. They remarked on how much they have grown since last year and admit measuring in metric is far easier than the English measurement system. We'll be focusing on density later next week. The great news is there will be no projects for this unit. The test will be after Labor Day. This will include a lab practical. ~Ms. Reinders |
